Reading

Reading is the most important thing your child will learn to do at our school. In developing a love of reading, St Mary’s ensure that reading is everywhere: providing reading areas in all classes, from Early Years to Year 6. We have created spaces that our pupils want to sit, relax and enjoy being in, reading and discussing books.  We have volunteer readers who read regularly with our pupils and a library that is used by the whole school, including our Reading Buddies.

'All pupils must be encouraged to read widely across both fiction and non-fiction to develop their knowledge of themselves and the world in which they live, to establish an appreciation and love of reading, and to gain knowledge across the curriculum. Reading also feeds pupils’ imagination and opens up a treasure-house of wonder and joy for curious young minds.'
