Jubilee Year - Pilgrims of Hope

The 2025 Jubilee is centered on the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.” As His Holiness Pope Francis so beautifully expressed it:

"We must fan the flame of hope that has been given us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusting heart and far-sighted vision."

Pope Francis has declared that the year 2025 will be a Holy Year of Jubilee for the Catholic Church.

The theme for the 2025 Jubilee is “Pilgrims of Hope”, this is a call for us all to showcase the hope of our Christian faith to people right across the world at a time when there is so much pain and suffering.

The Pilgrims of Hope Jubilee presents each one of us with an opportunity to reignite the flame of our faith in our own hearts and to share the light of that faith with those in darkness.

We are anchored in hope!

Archbishop Bernard Longley called us, as part of the Birmingham Diocese into action this Jubilee Year. He has asked us all to do three things;

  • Pray
  • Social Action
  • Fundraise

At St Mary's we are using the Year of the Jubilee to share prayers with our wider communities. We have created a school prayer book, including both traditional prayers and personal prayers from each aspect of our school.

The year of the Jubilee has inspired us all to think differently and to be the voice of change. We have set up a St Mary's podcast, where big questions about our world are asked, debated and acted upon. Our school council, anti-bullying leads and eco-councillors work tirelessly to drive change.

This year we will be supporting the work of Father Hudson's Caritas.

This charity supports thousands of vulnerable families and individuals who are homeless, elderly, disabled, refugees, seeking asylum, suffering from poverty - the most marginalised across the Diocese.

Meet  Luce! This character was created by the Roman illustrator Simone Legno, founder of the Tokidoki brand, and represents a young Catholic pilgrim in a style reminiscent of Japanese manga and anime characters. Luce is characterised by her blue hair, large luminous eyes, and attire symbolising the spiritual journey: she wears a yellow k-way, muddy boots, and carries a pilgrim’s staff and a rosary.
